THOMAS M. O’BRIEN, OF COUNSEL
Tom O'Brien has practiced law in regional firms including McCamish, Martin, Brown & Loeffler, PC with offices in San Antonio and Austin, Texas and in Washington, DC. While initially a pure tax lawyer, Mr. O'Brien's practice evolved into being the lead counsel on acquisition and divestiture matters for a Fortune 500 computer manufacturer. After the McCamish firm dissolved, Tom established a private practice in estate planning and administration, and in representing local business clients in planning and transactional matters. O'Brien became outside General Counsel to the Nix Health Care System and related entities, (including three (3) tax exempt non-profit corporations), eventually becoming Nix' s in-house General Counsel for some 15 plus years.

Tom O'Brien retired from the Nix in 2016 and is currently Of Counsel to the firm of Alford & O'Brien, PC, a San Antonio oil and gas firm co-founded by his son, Jamie O' Brien. Mr. O’Brien practices primarily in the areas of wills and estates, health law, real estate, exempt organizations, and general business law. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT).

Mr. O'Brien graduated from St. Mary's University with a BA in Political Science and English in 1970 and in 1973 graduated from the St. Mary's University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. In 1979 O'Brien received a Master of Laws in Taxation from SMU Law School
